Copper for Hair Growth

Does Copper Help Stimulate Hair Growth?

There are so many additives and extracts that play their role in either preventing hair loss, or stimulating hair growth. Copper has been found to help benefit the hair by stimulating the hair growth phase. So, in this article, we look at the role copper playing in promoting hair growth.

Firstly, what is copper? Copper is a chemical element with a symbol Cu and atomic number 29. When taken orally, copper is safe when taken in amounts no greater than 10mg daily. Copper can be harmful when taken in particularly large amounts, but a daily amount of 1mg-5mg is usually enough.

Copper has many health benefits that include; production of red blood cells, immune system support, formation of collagen and protein that helps make up your bones and tissue, turns sugar into energy, and helps absorb iron into the system.

How does copper stimulate hair growth?

Copper has shown to help maintain the tissues that are found in blood vessels. Thus, copper peptides stimulate and prolong the hair growth phase (anagen). This means more time for active hair regrowth and thicker hair strands. Subsequently, this shortens the resting phase of the hair follicles (telogen) and reduces hair shedding (telogen effluvium). To summarise, copper increases the size and strength of the hair follicles.

What foods are high in copper?

There are many foods that are high in copper. They include; organ meats such as liver, oysters, nuts and seeds, mushrooms, lobster, leafy greens, and dark chocolate. Although a healthy diet can play its part in the health of the hair, consuming copper through food alone is unlikely to help stimulate hair growth on a large scale.

The most effective way to get copper into the system, and for it to stimulate hair growth, would be to consume it through supplement form (pill, tablet or capsule). Copper can also have huge benefits on the hair when it is taken as part of a multivitamin hair supplement, like HR23+®. Multivitamin supplements contain a broad range of additives that work in conjunction with each other to help prevent hair loss and promote normal hair growth. Copper plays its key role in that process.

HR23+® contains 1mg of copper for its main purpose of promoting hair growth and hair regrwoth.
